One God & many diversions

There are many diverse ideas when it comes to the person of Jesus Christ. Just a man, just a prophet, just a great teacher, just a loser that ended up on the wrong side of the law and got himself hung on a cross for His troubles. But in the eyes and mind of Peter, Jesus is His Lord and His God and the Messiah. Matt 16:6. And John says the Word was before all things and the Word was with God and is God. John 1:1-3.

Deep in their soul the disciples had come to know Jesus for whom he truly was and is, in a kind of scientific way through observation and in a Theistic way through revelation and spirit changing renewal of the heart and head. That God should reveal himself to humanity in such humble circumstances is amazing as God takes on human flesh and human function.

In God we learn and grow to recognise what is good for the body and the soul. He made us & He therefore ought to know. In the mess that has been made through disobedience God has come to rescue and redeem. What humanity cannot undo God can, far beyond our limited understanding and efforts, beyond the façade of glitz and glamour, beyond the meddled world of politics and seductive and suggestive advertising. Through the false teachings and past the crowd of false prophets God steps into our poverty and our culture of deadness so that we may taste and have life in its richest form which is communion with Him the lover and carer of my soul.

Tell out My Soul

Amos 5:23-24.Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your
harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!

As much as we were made for worship we were also made to live just and honest lives. And that can be a hard thing when temptation knocks and harder still when you don’t even experience temptation anymore but gladly give yourself over to sinful desire just like OT Israel had progressively done.

Normalizing evil and dressing it up as good, the ancient society had become heathenistic & hedonistic and money talked more than the law and the prophets and a social sexual revolution had gripped the fallen nation and God’s long suffering and patient ways had reached its limit and was crossfading into judgement.

God hates sin because God loves what is just and true and good, He abhors the things that destroy and undo us. God is not insensitive to sin and corruption wherever it may be. And in His grace he has provided the deepest of mercies in sending His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit that we may truly know Him and His saving power that speaks to this world that has become entangled in an international deception of improvised wealth and power and pleasure.

God is not dead

It’s hard to keep up with the Jones’s and the competing Zeitgeists of this century and it’s also pretty easy to get sucked into its seemingly self- righteous path of intellect and reason. But where is it going anyway and old faithful still delivers on an hourly and daily basis and such is our God who has spoken in Christ.

The world rushes on unaware or unwilling to recognise its own blind spots, its elephants in the room that it deems unimportant as it chases after the wind like the Titanic cut across the Atlantic. And what a sight she must have been with all that fire in her belly. And like a ghost she now sits on the deep ocean floor.

Be still and know that I am God sings the psalmist. Psalm 46:10. It is God who is our healer and it is God who is our guide. While the futurists preach and beckon their futurisms of the 21st century may God still be our guide. He is a fortress, a mighty fortress that is not dependant on political might, technological improvisation and power or displays of strength.

He alone can save outdated as he may seem. The cross still remains the solution to all our woes whether we were there or not and the empty tomb speaks of a future and hope beyond this world ensnared by death, dreams and misery.

A crazy world

Intelligence & discernment are good things yet to idolise them is to invite doom. To seek to reduce the irreducible is like wanting to separate love and God or power and God as if they are not connected.

Yet this is what we are inclined to do with possessions, education, science, sexuality, food, work, rest and even Theology. Our transitions left unattended may even turn into full blown madness. Dan 4:33-37.

Pride is a dangerous thing that can make us unrecognisable, we can become distorted and simplified like a piece of modern art which may or may not display a hint of humanity. And it is only God who can fully restore mind, body & soul.

(That is not to say that the good gifts of medicine & struggles with mental health don't have their place in having a right relationship with God won through Christ)

Ahoy and the Alpha & Omega

The flowing form of the purpose shaped hull provides a unique function for troubled waters and calm seas. To not maintain ‘her’ would be a sign of neglect but in a project context it is being restored (What stories she could tell if she had a voice).

It looks to be a working vessel from another era and I came across it last Sunday morning on my way home from church. There was nobody around but it seemed appropriate enough to get a few photos. As it turned out a man heading out from a nearby driveway gave me his approval. There is a lot of design, knowledge and craft that goes into a boat like this, money and time also.

It was James and John that walked away from boats such as these in their own era. Having left their father Zebedee and the fishing business, they followed Jesus the carpenter's son when He called them beside the Sea of Galilee. Matt 4:18-22.

The old man and the scene

On and off over the years there have been several stories about how carp have been destroying rivers and eco systems here in Australia. It is a diversity that is harmful and damaging and many people know about it. Introduced species can really destroy ecologies that have worked wonderfully for years and years.

The other week while at my son’s soccer training I discovered a bluey grey carp in a big pond. I got a nice shot with my camera from above the water and tried again yesterday also taking along my GoPro. It took a bit of walking around the edge of the pond as the sun was slowly setting. Eventually I came across its large body swirling gently around near the shallow edge as it grazed. The upper most fin was cutting through the waters surface with its reflected surroundings as I quietly enjoyed the sight and discovery.

I got a little bit of video but I assume the red flashing recording light put the carp off a bit, (I should have covered the light) here are a few stills from the video. I placed the camera ahead of where I thought the fish may move and put some fish food flakes around to burley the area.

There is nothing new under the sun

The modern media & Hollywood has been doing its darndest to convince me that the LGBTQI thing is pretty normal when all is said and done. But like Socrates I don’t buy into a belief system that has no believability and must refuse to recognise the gods recognised by the states.

While universities and governments seek to oppress valid free speech and hem and herd in religion and in particular Christianity or for that matter the masses into a silent submission and a coded perception of reality I will by his Grace continue to put my faith and trust in God alone.

Unlike Socrates, suicide is not a solution and secular power with all its layers of emptiness cannot compete with the God of history, the ages and eternity. While the modernists seek to take us backwards in the name of progress and a perverse perspective the cry continues to echo from the past.“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Matt 23:37.

So tell me again. I am the one on the wrong side of history as the modernists, post modernists and post truthers lead backwards in the name of progress. The emperor’s new exchange as history often repeats a same old, same old pattern? Rom 1:25.

A chequered history

Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 1 Pet 5:2-3.

Our family was once part of a congregation where we were told in no uncertain terms that we had to like the sermons. It was an unjustified condition that was placed upon us in a most unusual meeting. It is sad when leadership seeks to lord it over the flock and neglects its great responsibility to teach clearly and well. It is not that we had been that critical of sermons but we certainly recognized a need to get some clarity on a few things.

At one stage the minister claimed he wanted and welcomed feedback but he changed his tune not long after. Leadership and authority for the sake of leadership and authority is not really the gospel, even if Jesus or God and love may get a mention. It is not just Satan that attacks the church, we can do a pretty good job all by ourselves at times, such is our old nature. Luke 12:35-48.

In the passage from Peter and from Paul in Philippians 2:1-11 we learn that humility is good and pride is evil but we also know there is a good side to pride and humility can be fake, we all have to learn to get things in the right order and measure.

profit and loss

Ecclesiastes 5:10.Those who love money never have enough; those who love wealth are never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.

You don’t need a breaking news story on the Panama papers to realize the truth that money, and in particular riches, do not satisfy in the way we think they can. Along with so many more things we cannot control our appetite to fill our pockets and homes and sheds with more it would appear. Wealth is a tricky equation where one size does not fit all (Eccl 5:8-6:).Loop holes, legalistic trickery, corporate quests, chasing after the wind and monetary complexity. Luke 12:13-21.

Keyboard warrior and worrier

This morning I wiped all my posts/cyber data except for the main tabs which I plan to re adjust. So I plan to keep blogging.

It is a bit unusual not knowing who the readers are & why they read and whether or not people get something helpful from my posts. But anyway, I see it to be a worthwhile task that also brings enjoyment in sharing.

I like art and photography and also seek to share portions of my life in the world and in the Christian church as I walk with God by faith. In all seriousness and at times light heartedness and just moments of pondering things old and things new.
