Let the good times roll or let the good news roll

The evidence & experience of suffering is often used as an excuse to reject or blame God. It is biblically clear though that the human family is responsible. And are we just as quick then to thank God for medicine, healing & all the good things that flow from the created order & providential care? No.
Selective data & atheistic confirmation bias usually seeks to put an end to that. Ironically, those that accuse God have no real moral basis for doing so, particularly as the meaning of life according to atheistic belief & the miracle of life is unable to be demonstrated scientifically as it proclaims a freak accident of no set purpose.
The other day I was questioned regarding God & suffering. I hope I responded biblically & sufficiently even if there was disagreement. It was good this morning to hear the inspired words of Habbakuk 3:1-19. We may not understand everything (nor do we have to) to walk by faith & not by sight.

10 Reasons Why God Allows Suffering 10 Reasons Why God Allows Suffering avatar
Jared Wilson, in Gospel Deeps, writes that “while we may not be satisfied with what God has revealed about his purposes in suffering, we cannot justifiably say he has not revealed anything about his purposes in suffering. We may not have the answer we are laboring for, but we do have a wealth of answers that lie in the same field.”
Here’s an outline of ten reasons he identifies in God’s Word:
1.       To remind us that the world is broken and groans for redemption [Rom. 8:20-23].
2.      To do justice in response to Adam’s (and our) sin.
3.      To remind us of the severity of the impact of Adam’s (and our) sin.
4.      To keep us dependent on God [Heb. 12:6-7].
5.      So that we will long more for heaven and less for the world.
6.      To make us more like Christ, the suffering servant [Rom. 8:29; 2 Cor. 1:5, 4:11].
7.      To awaken the lost to their need for God [Ps. 119:67, 71].
8.     To make the bliss of heaven more sweet [Rom. 8:18; 1 Pet. 4:13; Ps. 126:5; Isa. 61:3].
9.      So that Christ will get the glory in being our strength [John 9:3; 2 Cor. 4:7].

10.  And so that, thereby, others see that he is our treasure, and not ourselves [2 Cor. 4:8-9].

The economy of man & woman

Prov 7:24-27. Who says women are not powerful & influential? Surely not Scripture. Women like men are capable of good & evil. Prov 11:16. There is much, much, more to the equation. Modern society would have us believe in a thing called forwardness or progress as it promotes its secular agenda of Utopian greatness, trust us, yes we can with the power of Elitism.

Every day we are invited to adopt foolishness at the expense of God’s great wisdom when it comes to money, sex & power. A democracy can equate to a country’s rise just as much as its fall. To aspire to greatness is not about position or standing in society. Mk 12:41-44. Ultimately only God is truly great & He shares that greatness with us amongst the ruins of modern man & woman. In Him it is better to trust.Prov 21:1.

Christ, solid before the rock was made.

Sight is a wonderful thing, as is touch as is hearing (when governed by goodness rather than evil), God is good. And the blindness of unbelief is sure to fail. It’s not something I claim under my own steam, it is the message of the ages that is often distorted & manipulated but nevertheless will endure, says God.

Meanwhile Jews look for signs, atheists demand them, Greeks look for wisdom, pleasure seekers look for the ultimate experience & the next psychedelic & alcoholic trick to blow the mind & infuse the brain with dreamy delusion, not much has changed at all apart from some technological advances built on the backs & brains of others, evolution not, just variation, extinction, hype & escapism of the species really.

Sin really does seek to lead us astray & we are captive to it. There is only one way out & it’s not death but life. The empty planets will tell you nothing except what you imagine them to say, no different to the maker of idols that bow down in worship to them. None better than the life giver would know, He has seen it all, heard it all & touched it all, above it all, even hell itself. 1 Cor 1:18-31. John 1:1-18.

Mighty God, Mighty Flood, Tiny Ark

Amidst the turmoil and terror that humanity has reaped after sowing its own destruction, amidst the claimed fullness that is really emptiness the righteous live by faith. Empowered by the Spirit & wrestling with world events, exercised faith & waiting on God is the remedy.

Like strangers & aliens in a very foreign land of gaping chasms where distance takes the place of familiarity & closeness. Though the blues & blacks threaten to envelop the light, yet God is near, Thy loving kindness is better than life. Despite all the colours there is only one truth & one God & he will never forsake.

This is an older image of mine that I have reworked in a digital medium.
Initially it was an airbrushed work.
I wrote first then thought this image would be a good accompaniment.

Ironically many mock the great flood as historical but willingly hold to life imagining from a primordial mixture where non living matter becomes living, no evidence for that, but that's apparently OK, the modern myth makers say so.

Soaked in sin

The last two sermons at church have been on Habakkuk. Last night at bible study we spent an hour or so getting into Habakkuk’s second complaint & the Lord’s answer. It’s been a while since I have gotten into the divided kingdom & the civil war that erupted after the life & times of Solomon. Not to mention the surrounding nations & political woman and manoeuvring.

While checking out a few maps this morning I came across this verse. "And I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down" (2 Kings 21:13).History & Theology in the kitchen. I get to be God like, handling dishes like God handles the nations. Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket. Isa 40:15.

There is a big hole in the bucket of humanity. We may think we are the only ones washing the dishes, drying the dishes & turning the dishes over but God too is into making things clean & pure from our polluted mess. It’s why Jesus came to be among us.

lapping water

It was my sister-in-law's birthday the other day.
I usually like to come up with a personalised greeting.
She (Lucy) works at a local swimming pool.

A place where hundreds & thousandth's of seconds
count somewhere in the scheme & record
 of things in official meetings.

The right to bear God's image

God has graciously given us His image that we may reflect His glory. Instead, by seduction & disobedience we threw it all away on the basis of a lie & lack of trust. To humanity's shame & destruction we still willfully deny & distort the Creator's instruction for the wondrous gifts He has given. How perverse is that.

Time certainly cannot undo past wounds, only in Christ can true restoration begin.Fully God & Fully man. Isa 53:1-12.Not just in outward appearance but in word & deed Jesus makes the impossible possible.Col1 :15-23.Everlasting peace can only come from Him.

Heart & Mind Surgeon

2 Cor 6:14. to 2 Cor 7:1.

The modern world is full of idolatry, whatever takes pride of place in the human mind is really worshiped & adored. Matt 26:19-24. No matter our organ, they all need guidance & care & come with instruction lest we be polluted by chaos & evil.

Passage of time

God's power is just as present today, He is mighty to save & does despite
the significance & power of sin & the devil.God is not limited or bound by human understanding & measures of knowledge.

There is more to this bondage to decay that grips humanity. In our pride
we can be demanding of God,others & ourselves yet it was our first parents who decided our fate. God is giving us something our parents never could or can. In taking on human flesh God engages with humanity in the humblest of ways.

From bondage to freedom, restoration begins thanks to Christ Jesus.

A balking & bolting people

After considering my initial ideas I have decided
to finish on these two images for Habbakuk 1:1-11.

It is much easier(in a way) to accept the good stuff of faith
but itis usually through suffering that maturity develops.
At times all we can do is keep watch & pray as dark days envelop.
Psalm 73:1-28.

God cannot be mocked

This morning at church we began a new sermon series. After spending several weeks in the book of Mark focusing on the coming & purpose of Christ, we are now entering the book of Habbakuk. Habbakuk must wrestle with destruction & violence, the unrest between Judah. Israel & exile. God is living & active in world events.

I see why

You’re very old as is your wife, as far as your concerned children & offspring are nowhere to be seen as far as family trees go, some think it laughable. But God has other ideas, pure & holy ones. Not one to be boxed in or bound by natural law but faithful & loving nevertheless, God bestows undeserved favour & purpose to Abram & Sarah. God’s redeeming love will bless Abraham & the nations. In the turmoil, the doubts and temptations God is ever present. Gen 12:1-9. His surprises teach our hearts to smile in the storm. God is not indifferent to our suffering, the rebellious heart is indifferent to God.

It's not easy living by faith

Faith like life doesnt come naturally, it is a gift from God. God is reliable as is His Word. To fully rely on God is to put your trust in God at all times & in all places.Living by faith requires active seeking & holding onto the godly things & promises. Dont let go of them.Love God with all your heart, all your mind, all your strength says the Old & New Testament.

Silent nights & days

The heavens declare the glory of God, the beauty, the vastness, the diversity, the order, the wisdom. The heavens declare the glory of God & the miniscule attempts of humanity in comparison. Already the space junk is filling up the outer atmosphere, tiny tin & tinsel like structures amongst the massive non- living matter of the big silent space… the heavens declare the glory of God.Psalm 19:1-14.

Unable to blog much this past week. Extra shifts, extra tiredness with very early nights, but a very productive week otherwise, hoping to get back into the swing of things.

True Spirit

Enviro evangelism is big at the moment, “where all doomed” “climate change is coming” “repent.” The reality is you don’t need to be a scientist to realise that pollution & waste products are harmful, seen or unseen, ocean, land or space. Pollution definitely is manmade & from little things big things grow. When my baby smiles at me I go to Rio.

But when it comes to our bodies & lifestyles we can do what we want. Drink what you want, smoke what you want, inject what you want. Be free, be easy, party on. And if no one is saying it plenty are doing it & turning worlds upside down & who are you to tell me what to do anyway…Love the one you’re with.

It’s a manic world of highs & lows & no wonder people want to get off. God says He is greater than this world. God says He has overcome it. He knows what is free & easy & hard. In Him we find the reality check we all need regarding the visible & invisible. Matt 4:7-11.

The Kingdoms dazzle & put you in a daze, so does the data mostly. Statistically its open to interpretation. Some things are more prescious than bronze, silver & gold. God has given us His personal best, won great victory & shared it upon the nations. Glory to Him.

Light,Creation & Action

My wife & I were able to get away for two days during the school holiday break. We headed up the coast stopping in at Seal Rocks on our way to Port Macquarie. We took in some coastal lookouts & some rainforest walks. Spotted some dolphins & whales & enjoyed the fresh air.

I wanted to do some video & present something on a biblical theme. I was thinking of the hymn, nearer still nearer mostly but there are many hymns that express the sea & the Saviour.

Mighty: 2 min 50 sec.

Terra Australis

This impressive bird is a Red Tailed Black Cockatoo. Its from an old photo of mine taken behind glass with wire mesh in the background at Blackbutt (a type of tree) Reserve.

I posterised the image then cut around the bird & branch creating a PNG image, which means it can have an invisible background.

Last night I inserted the new image onto a coloured background. Its very low resolution but makes for a nice composition thanks to the lonely & probably very bored bird with specific beauty. They dont tell you why & how the bird got there, only its scientific name usually (apart from the usual unreliable evolutionary stuff). Its a nice cage, very large, about 5 meters square & 7 meteres high with good animal care from what I have seen

Lateley I have been cleaning/preening files & folders. Its been indoors kind of weather with strong cold winds.

Contentment vs Knowledge.

Yes we can put a thingamajig on the moon, make a space station, make it robotically to mars, land on an asteroid, get some photos of Pluto & with sniper like ingenuity, make it to Jupiter by Jupiter! Trigonometry & Physics & stuff has a use way beyond the blue. Five years in the making with some perfect timing is something many of us can relate to, not bad (clap, clap, clap).

Clever? Yes. Cost a bit? Yes, millions & billions probably over the years. A universe billions of years old? No, not really.

Not all the news make the news…The poor, the hungry, the starving is sort of like inconvenient news that contradicts how clever we are & how poor & pitiful we really are despite our intelligence & creativity. I know much poverty is born out of laziness but also through greed & self-seeking missions of greatness. Big business, corporate power, CEO salaries & the equation of more, more, more equates to less, less, less for many more....Didjunothat.

Only in God does it all come together says Scripture.

Keeping it real

Modern day Noah’s that live by faith don’t need Gopher wood & pitch. The great flood of judgement was a one off & the rainbow graciously given as a sign to allay human fear after such a great catastrophic event as humanity again begins to shape civilisation. God is good like that, considerate & kind with His world. It’s not that hard to see evidence for a great flood with massive upheaval & run off, significant rapid change on the crust of the earth & more.

Mt 24:37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
1Pet 3:20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water.

Time & again we see the kindness of God to an often disobedient people.Grace to those who are undeserving.God's love, patience & guidance to His church is just the same today as they were in the time of Noah. The laughs & scoffing come thick & fast.

Eight in all, yet safe in the hands of God. having a laugh isnt everything is it.Some things are far too serious for that.

Always, always

Throughout the ages, the life of faith has been and will be expressed in song thanks to God's faithfulness. Day or night we may face spiritual struggles. Months & years may be tinged with sadness. Like the persistent widow we should not forget to call on God in our circumstances that He is keenly aware of & working for good for His children.Divine providence & human frailty can be a cause for growth & maturity.God continues to do great things,He never changes.

The road blest travelled

While I kept guilty silence,
My strength was spent with grief,
Thy hand was heavy on me,
My soul found no relief;
But when I owned my trespass,
My sin hid not from Thee,
When I confessed transgression,
Then Thou forgavest me.

To eternity & never beyond

Time might be on our side regarding our age or experience but no matter how long or short we live, what matters most is are we in a restored relationship with God which comes through turning our being towards Christ. In Christ our hearts are showered with grace & mercy instead of judgement. There is no other place like it.

You may decide you have a better deal, something to cling too, a winning hand…but that is just a dream compared to the interpreter of dreams & the outstretched arm of Salvation. Are you equipped for eternity?…you can’t take your technology with you…or anyone else either. Immortality & earth's history do not belong to mortals, we are just briefly part of it.

After this earthly end we must stand before God all by ourselves to give account, says the Scriptures.1 Pet 4:1-11.
