Already I am somewhat ancient as I look back on the many changes that have taken place in the world and my country of birth. Some of those changes have been rapid and radical regarding culture and belief. I wouldn’t call it interesting times but rather tumultuous like a restless ocean blown about.
So here I sit on my figurative rocking chair on my figurative veranda looking out on a world rushing on, busy making history like so many generations before them. History is a messy business and it often repeats, so when people think they are doing something new it is much older and much closer to home than they realise (much closer to the second law of thermodynamics and the Scriptural bondage to decay)
The tables have been turned before, the tables will be turned again. History knows it, God knows it, and Scripture declares it. Central to history is Christ and not the latest art, philosophy or political movement. Obscure at times in the Old Testament, Obvious in the fulfilling New Testament. Eternal things are not hampered by transient trends and God’s promises and faithfulness are truly unbreakable.Matt 7:24-29.
