Setting the scene

There seems to be something decidedly English about this nativity scene. Maybe even an Antiques Roadshow sought of feel. From what Scripture tells us it can be established that it was the shepherds who went to witness the Hebrew child and lamb of God wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. The wise men from the east arrived later bearing gifts in honour of the Christ child which triggers a paranoid genocide similar to Israel’s allotted time in Egypt after Joseph. Exo 1:1-22.

Rev 12:13-17 gives us a decidedly different picture again. It is a historical meld where a not so romantic earth is caught up in a spiritual battle with much sadness & turmoil. Matt 2:18. Such is the wonder & awe of Christmas.

The significance of the first Christmas is just as consequential & significant for the peoples of today. The real Christmas has been trashed by the secular world. It lies scattered like a crumbling city of yesteryear…just like it has been attacked by an enraged dragon at war with God. Yet God builds & protects His church. 1 Pet 2:4-5 amidst the sadness & joy.
