The Heidelberg Catechism, Modern English Version: Lord’s Day 10 Q & A 27.
What do you understand by the providence of God?
The almighty, everywhere-present power of God, whereby, as it were by His hand, He still upholds heaven and earth with all creatures, and so governs them that herbs and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, meat and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, indeed, all things come not by chance, but by His fatherly hand.
This brief summary of God at work in His world is the total opposite of blind chance & random meaningless dependant on miracle after miracle as bad luck & good luck get lucky & unlucky.
The gift of faith & the word of truth know it to be true. Not only is there a first cause with order & structure of the most sublime but the only wise God understands our struggles & directs them for our ultimate good. The big names in Scripture & our common ancestors of Grace living by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor 5:7.
