To God be the glory

Church was part of my early upbringing…getting ready for & going to worship/church, hanging around for church cleaning & newsletter printing (hand operated gestetner), BBQ nights, holiday clubs, Sunday dinners etc. etc. The church was next to a small creek & park so we always found something to do eventually. Church of course could be summarised as inconvenient & boring, especially when the minister would pick up my sister & I after a hard day at school for catechism classes or we had to endure an extended Sunday sermon sitting on tin seats watching the overhead fans or discovering how good a reflection I could get off my watch face…do I dare aim at the minister…

The truth is we also had a lot of fun at church & experienced some spectacular learning from dedicated teachers, heaps of stuff, good stuff shedding light on God’s Kingdom in a dark world, darkened by the deceitfulness of sin. In the church too we don’t always know what we’ve got until it’s gone, & by the waters we weep when we remember & so we should, fellowship & friendship that only exists because of the atonement.

God the Father, Christ the Son & the Holy Spirit takes hold of a cold & lonely heart & renews it with power from on high. In the midst of the busyness & boredom God is at work in the world, in countries, states, towns, cities, communities, churches & individuals.

John 17:1-5

a matching tune to the above hymn
